San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

WOW! I had no clue there would be so much interest in the cages. I got back to everyone that responded. I will pm the people that pm'd with interest. You will be on my list and I will go down accordingly. There was ALOT of interest so there is no way to accomodate everyone since my van will only fit so many cages. They are Large and Bulky and awkward.

I know it is a long shot but I am looking for LARGE feeders and Waterers for my expanding pens. OMG! Was it 2 years ago when I first met you ladies and I had ZERO chickens? Now I am going to star on Hoarder's.

I think you guys are a very bad influence on me.

So if anyone ones across some Large feeders and waterers, I am your girl. I am thinking 30lb feeders and 8 gallon waterers. I would hate for the ladies to run out of either. They are bound to call the authorities. I have some from long ago and I bought some recently and I prefer the old ones. They just do not make things to last anymore.

Nancy, have you considered a gravity/automatic waterer? I don't know how many chickens you have but if you get a 25 gallon barrel and make a gravity waterer out of it, you might only have to fill it every couple of days and you wouldn't have to wash it out all that often... I hear chickens get used to drinking off the nipples pretty easily. I think it might have been on this thread a long time ago where someone discussed their own, or else you can just do a search for automatic waterers to see everyone else's plans. It will save you a lot of money and time to do it this way vs. buying large size waterers. It will also keep the water much cleaner AND doesn't take up space inside the run.

Desirae, Yes! I have considered it. It was a lack of planning on my part. Never thought I would get caught up in chicken math. I thought I would have 1 large coop and that would be it but it is growing. I had the plumber put in faucets but the configurations now make it difficult. I am going to put the auto waterer in the BIG coop and then use the large waterers for the smaller coops. I cannot run water now in the middle of the yard. Difficult to explain. I guess I could make the lazy chickens walk.

I did see the other thread but I am curious if anyone is going to be bringing any fertile eggs that aren't already spoken for or that are not for the raffle? I have a broody and I'm going to have to kennel her because the last time I had a broody, the eggs got pecked at or the broody hens got pushed out of the right box into another box of non-fertile eggs and the broody didn't know the difference so the eggs never hatched. So I'll probably be hatching out about 5 eggs. She's a Buff Orpington and can cover a lot. They can be mutt eggs, I just need some. Thanks!

I will be back online later but I do have some. Mutt eggs that is. I also have some BCM's and some Sussex eggs.

I may be looking for some OE's though. I am hoping there are eggs available. I have 2 broodies too. I need more chicks like I need a heartattack.

I have OEs... FBCM x Black or Blue Am and Cuckoo Marans x Black or Blue Am. (The Cuckoo's chicks would be sexable at hatch.)

I also have the following eggs that could be available:

Black Am x B/Bl Am
EE x B/Bl Am
plus a grab bag of would-be EEs (White Rock, Barred Rock, Salmon Fav, SL Wyandotte, maybe some Blue Andalusian and whatever else I'm forgetting about.)

Let me know if anybody wants me to start collecting them, and I'll be happy to do so.

I'll bring all that are collected for the next few days. My roosters are LF white Am, buff laced frizzle polish, and a large blue silkie rooster over two NN hen and a WCP all bantams.
