San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I am holding on to my beliefs at the moment if nothing else. My husband lost his job because of crazyinsane claims, and even though they were proven false it does nothing to give him his job back. Even though all of the accusers (all male, read no sexual content into this please) have now recanted their stories, and proven that many of them were in fact guilty of the charges they claim my husband did (also proven that this was an attempt for the 2nd in command to gain a promotion) it does us no good....
What happened to the days when they righteous were rewarded? Were there ever those days?
I'd like to think so, but human nature doesn't change that much, so maybe not.
What field is he in? Maybe someone here knows someone that can help him find work. Think of your cup half full. I've been in a similar situation and I carried a lot of anger around for a long time. I was so hurt because I had been nothing but a loyal, hard working employee. I realize now that I can't let messed up people mess up my life or my attitude towards life. Something wonderful will come your way. You'll look back on this time and realize it was the best thing to happen to you. It doesn't feel like it now, I know. Trust me, you'll be stronger for it.

Four week old chick was attacked by her momma hen. She pecked the chick to a pulp, even tore a huge hole on top of her head. I have doctored and medicated the chick, took the rest of the babies away and into a separate cage. The injured chick is drinking, eating and standing on her own. What else can i do? why would the momma turn on the baby?

Ugh!! This is always so horrible to find! Some birds just don't recognize their young. They don't have the instinct that kicks in like others do.
You were wise to remove all the chicks. You can clean the wound with a betadine solution. If you don't have that use 10% hydrogen peroxide in water. Let it dry thoroughly. Apply a triple antibiotic ointment (with no pain killer) to the wound with a Q-tip so that you're using something somewhat sterile. Re-apply the triple antibiotic ointment three times a day. It's not necessary to clean the wound each time, in fact, you don't want to do that. Keep the chick warm, add electrolytes with vitamins to it's water if you have them. Give the chick a stuffed animal to cuddle against since it's by itself. Don't handle it any more than you have to. Keep it in a quiet part of the house. If it survives the shock after 24 hrs. that's a good sign.

I obviously do not use incubators, I read that as a Disney Cabinet Incubator.
