OMG all those crates!

A little update on the french black copper marans chicks ... I have 7, and there are 2 there are definitely boys and 1 other that I'm 75% sure is a boy. I won't keep any of the boys, so anyone who wants a FBCM cockerel, let me know. They're still with broody mamas, but it won't be too long before they're able to go to new homes. They are 4 weeks old.

Ugh!! This is always so horrible to find! Some birds just don't recognize their young. They don't have the instinct that kicks in like others do.
You were wise to remove all the chicks. You can clean the wound with a betadine solution. If you don't have that use 10% hydrogen peroxide in water. Let it dry thoroughly. Apply a triple antibiotic ointment (with no pain killer) to the wound with a Q-tip so that you're using something somewhat sterile. Re-apply the triple antibiotic ointment three times a day. It's not necessary to clean the wound each time, in fact, you don't want to do that. Keep the chick warm, add electrolytes with vitamins to it's water if you have them. Give the chick a stuffed animal to cuddle against since it's by itself. Don't handle it any more than you have to. Keep it in a quiet part of the house. If it survives the shock after 24 hrs. that's a good sign.
Well our Lil baby is doing good. Eating well and drinking well. Hes acting fine despite the whole in its head. We have affectionately called him "bone head", a little sick with no intention to offend anyone.

LOL!! Glad he's going to make it. Just keep applying the ointment. When it starts to scab over, which it probably already has, you can drop it down to twice a day. Keep doing that and it'll close up real quick.

Bantam Cochins
I have two 4 week old Lavender chicks 99% that they are Roos. I also have two other Lavender chicks that I'm 99% sure are hens. I'm looking to sell them , one or all. I live in Escondido California and I would like to deal with anyone in the Temecula and San Diego area.
