Amulet I had a Guinea that lost a whole leg from raccoon. She was a Tweenager at the time still with a bit of bacon head. She adapted quite well after she healed. She grew up and with some adaptations was quite comfortable with the flock. My chick with the broken leg is doing well. The break was bad (bone through the skin) and I don't think she'll ever walk normally, but a week later there's no infection and she swings it around when she hops, wanting to use it. I take that as a good sign. I'm 65% sure she's a girl, but not 100%. Her companion is most definitely a little roo. At 4 or 5 days old he started picking up food, dropping it, and chirping to her. He's also got a more formed comb and rough houses like a little roo. I'm going to have to find a home for him when all is said and done, because I've become too fond of him to process, and he's already very friendly.
i use rice husks - a little tough to get in SoCal thoughI'm old fashioned I use dirt.![]()
Quote: You can get rice hulls at some feed stores you just have to look around. I used to use them for bedding for my horse. She Wuves her hullies..... LOL. she eats about two mouthfulls picking out the rice.... I have a bag right now ready to put down in the coop for the next expansion. I never thought them dense enough for nest boxes though.

yeah, he does. thats why I posted him. my goats are tiny though. After I get the chickens going, I will start looking for a Nubian buck
It sits in mountains along the side of the road on the Philippines. Somebody on BYC suggested I use it in my coops and its worked out great so far. The best part is.....its freeIf I'm remembering correctly, I bought bags of rice hull bedding up at a feed store in San Marcos... I quit using it as bedding three 12x16 stalls for three messy horses got pretty expensive. Layer box bedding costs would be much more reasonable!
