I just got slammed by the Fire inspector and am having to spend all my spare money getting my property cleared. I have till the fifteenth to get the area around my house cleared out to fifty feet and then thinned out to the next fifty feet. If they call in the county to do the job I wont be able to afford it, I am worn out all ready. Driving 120 miles (round trip) every day to my house and making sure Grandma gets breakfast and lunch before I leave.

I am not going to make it to the meetup. And am changing my mind to keep my Wellies. with the cleared area and finally the use of a chainsaw I can give them more then the six by twelve space to live in. The plus side will be I will finally have the area I need cleared so I can make a big secure run for them.

I am turning into one of those people that "back out"..... Sigh.

No deb, the universe just stepped in to help you hang onto what you enjoy!

How about a BYC meetup where we help clear areas for coops & counties ...like a barn raising but with chickens and lots of iced tea!

I think that's a great idea.

I think you are right.... I have the materials to do them right now that the area is clear.
i like that idea for a meet up
Quote: thanks.... Barn raising could be a "Coop Clear...." Seriously for me I live too far out from EVERYONE. Sixty miles east of El Cajon. Its almost done....In my eye. The gal that came out with me today to get the wood out of the yard thinks differently.... LOL. I did get to weed whack. Sit on my scooter whack in an arc and scoot some more. I got an area 24 x 12 done and found the hose for the horse with the leak.... Yay. I am creating a depository for all the wood cleared on the heliocopter pad (long story). Some is useable.... I need to sort eventually.

Hi everyone! I have a question and I hope someone can tell me what I should do. My Cochin had 3 chicks. One I had to hatch in the incy. I tried to put it under her at night but in the morning she was pecking at it. Should I try again tonight to put it under her? It is now 2 days old and all by oneself? Is there something else I can do to make her accept this one? She is so cute with her other 2? Please let me know it is getting dark?

My 2 cents, which is worth 2 cents...I wouldn't. You tried it and she didn't accept it. If you don't get down to the coop early enough in the morning it could be dead. I'd just pull the others and raise them all together. It's so much easier to let the broodies do the work, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

It was cute to see her with the other two. I was not looking for anymore chicks right now. I was done this year raising babies. All of mine are all getting along and I had so many different groups to bring together. Then she went broody "I never had that yet" so I though WOW I don't have to do anything!! Then one of the eggs was chirping inside and the egg was not cracking so I helped it and this one is a GIRL looks like her daddy a barnie. The other two look like their momma cochin probably boys.

Well if I am going to be raising one again. I may as well raise all three what is the difference. I will grab them in the morning so sad it didn't work.
