San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

ouch so sorry for that hard hit on your hens.
i have a hen around that age.it is a blue laced mix.so pretty.i was going to bring her to the meet up.her mother is a blue laced red wyndotte.i have a white nn too.she is just started laying.she looks like a naked neck delaware.

I've been predator free for over a year but last night took its toll. I lost 16 layers, not good for business.... Something? we think Bobcat dug underneath our largest cage, evern though the wire was buried & curved inward. This animal was serious about getting in~!

My question to all of you...does anyone have 12 week or older (up to a year) pullets for sale. I'm looking for production birds. If so, PM me with details & price. Thanks in advance :)

Thanks. It is definitely one of those learning moments. She passed not too long after I posted. She was very peaceful and drowsy. This particular broody wasn't the best sitter, probably because she's a frizzled polish silkie mix and could hardly see. I'd often see an egg near her but not under her, and I'd tuck it back in. I was actually surprised that any of the eggs made it to hatching. We've actually had 5 hatch and seem to be doing well, one other that pipped but didn't make it past that. 5 hatched is still way more than I expected.

I'm so sorry Lynne. Poor things. Sounds like a bobcat, or maybe a fox if you have those around you.

16? That is a lot! I am so sorry for your losses!

The weather report has caused my Sat ride to be cancelled, so I happily can come to the meet-up and , well, meet some of you. I trust the weather will not cause "chickens" to cancel?
I hope I can find where I wrote the address.

I have been checking the weather like a lunatic today and so far it appears that we should be rain free on Saturday. We do have an easy-up and I believe a few others have mentioned they were willing to bring one as well. So even if there is a bit of drizzle, the show will go o.. Allison has also proposed an alternate indoor location should the weather be completely awful. So, fingers crossed that our beautiful San Diego weather is present this Saturday.

In other news, I bought an incubator today. Yup, one of those 300 egg incubators, where if the egg is fertile, it will hatch. I am soooo in trouble now. So if any of you all have some eggs you would like me to hatch - there is room at the inn. Muhahaha!
