San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

My legbar eggs started out quite small as well. They quickly got up to a more respectable size. They are about the same size as my marans' eggs but smaller than a barred rock. It seems like they are still gradually increasing in size. Most of the eggs are over 50 grams with the occasional egg hitting the 60 gram mark. I believe the eggs were weighing in at 35-45 grams when they first started laying.

I think the ones I got are around 45 grams. I had to do an ounce-to-gram conversion, lol. My Ameraucana's eggs average 50 grams, and I expected the CL's to be bigger. I guess I expected the CL's to be between 50g and 70g. My red sex-link eggs average 70g after five months of laying; her first egg probably was only about 35g.

They seem to be about the same size as an Ameraucana's egg. I have an incubator full of legbar and Ameraucana eggs and I am not sure I could tell them apart if they got too mixed up. I think generally the legbar eggs are rounder and bluer, but it would be dicey,

OMG you guys WEIGH your eggs??? I'm not sure how I feel about that.....whether you are really truly chicken crazy cuckoo or that you just gave me the best idea of the century!

One of my hens is broody, again.

I've always let my broodies hatch, but I'm not sure if I want to find her some eggs or try and shake her out of it.

They start out not huge but rapidly become a very decent size.
I have some in the bator too. San diego is going to be legbar city!!

Edited to say that line "A" birds lay really well. Less sure that "B" and "C" do.
When you and Kristen and Allison and anybody else come up to visit the Grand Canyon and Painted Desert and/or any of AZ please bring additional eggs from group A.
I love my two little legbars and wish I had more right now.

Yeah, I don't have any legbars either. I am keeping myself left out on purpose - no more chickies for me! Does anyone want or still want one of my barred olive egger roosters? I also have a frizzle polish rooster (I was told he was from a tolbunt project/pen) that I will consider parting with for a price (Dearie)! (Thats for anyone who watches "Once upon a time".
