San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Off the topic too. My Standard French Poodle will be having her puppies at anytime now. I cant even sleep. Haha

Thanks everyone. He has his Associates Degree at Cuyamaca. He will be Majoring in Astronomy and going for a minor in Math. He has to take all the math anyway for Astronomy I think he will only have to take one or two extras to get the Minor.

I had a cousin who got snooty with me for "Allowing" him to choose such a Useless Major. Sheesh. Shes no slouch herself engineering degrees and such. But I told her he can work in any field he wants to after school. Though I think his aim is toward the commercial space effort.

There's no such thing as a "useless major" - a science degree is always good, lots of career opportunities, and if he goes onto graduate school or for the Ph.D he can always teach, too.

can you give details to time, place and date.would we be there to answer chicken questions?

This would be in Mira Mesa on April 20 from 10 am to 1 pm. We can provide a table and an ez up. And yes, it would be to answer questions/give info about having chickens. Bringing chickens is definitely optional but would be great for people to see. I would love to have the chicken community represented at our little festival as having chickens has changed me for the better and I have met so many great people because of it. :)

Totally agree. I have a degree in English literature and worked for 16 years as a graphic artist. Just because you have a degree in something, doesn't mean you can do anything and everything else. The degree opens doors that simply aren't there without one.

Amen to that. I'm hoping I can one day find another career to give a go. I have my degree in computer science and currently work as a software engineer, but man I'm getting burnt out....Any ideas? :)

I agree. I think sometimes people get locked into a box, like my cousin. I believe she totally lacks the ability to think Laterally....

Gosh you could go into many many different fields that require programming. From Gaming to Defense. SAIC is a huge employer that is all over San Diego in many store fronts. They are a defense contractor.

Me I am an undegreed engineer. Manufacturing is my forte. I was out of work because most of the manufacturing jobs went out of the country so I decided to go for a degree in Drafting and Design. Didnt help.... I could have taught Autocad at one time. Not any more.

I was laid off when SAIC bought the company I worked for. Apparently my job was redundant. I was bummed as they seem like a really great company. They have many "business units" that do different things (my company was a defense contractor).

Another company to look at is Qualcomm. They are nearly almost always hiring and all my friends that work there love the company. They have great benefits as well.

Thanks, but I'm actually contemplating leaving the software engineering field, or at least the development/programming aspect of it. I have the itch to try something new, just not sure what....lol

i have a pair of speckled sussex available.I bought them as chicks from gail but i believe she bought them from "phage"they are beautiful and have been seperated from the flock for 2-3 weeks now.they have not started laying but it should be here soon as the rooster is now crowing.
I was going to breed them, seperated them ffrom the rest and then said nah i dont want to worry about another pen so i tried to reintroduce them back into the flock.big mistake there was several bloody roosters,so back into the pen they went.they were out a couple hours before i returned them to the pen.

Id like $55.00 for the pair.
any interested parties?
