Our first spring lambs were born! Twins!!!! They are Cheviot-Dolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Mini Cheviot X Babydoll Southdowns) By the way, Mini Cheviots are one of the best wool breeds for hand spinners and I hear that babydolls are also popular with handspinners - one of the advantages of crossing the babydoll with the Mini Cheviot is a longer staple length - basically longer wool. Mini Cheviot wool is so fine that it is of the type that can be used for garments worn against the skin, even baby clothes! My sheep range from black to reddish brown (chocolate) to multicolored grey to brownish on one fleece. just for reference, those baby goats in the picture above are a lot bigger than my mini lambs - just to give you an idea of size. That ewe is not any taller than 20 inches. She's so short the babies have to kneel to nurse! In the second picture that's me standing next to them, and those of you who know me know I am not super tall (I'm not even 5' 5" LOL)
