San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Our first spring lambs were born! Twins!!!! They are Cheviot-Dolls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Mini Cheviot X Babydoll Southdowns) By the way, Mini Cheviots are one of the best wool breeds for hand spinners and I hear that babydolls are also popular with handspinners - one of the advantages of crossing the babydoll with the Mini Cheviot is a longer staple length - basically longer wool. Mini Cheviot wool is so fine that it is of the type that can be used for garments worn against the skin, even baby clothes! My sheep range from black to reddish brown (chocolate) to multicolored grey to brownish on one fleece. just for reference, those baby goats in the picture above are a lot bigger than my mini lambs - just to give you an idea of size. That ewe is not any taller than 20 inches. She's so short the babies have to kneel to nurse! In the second picture that's me standing next to them, and those of you who know me know I am not super tall (I'm not even 5' 5" LOL)

I got an OK pic of one of my creamies finally!! Those little chicks don't like to sit still for pictures. This is the one with the crazy mohawk!! It is hilarious to look at!!!

I had a famous breeder ship me eggs that will arrive Thursday. The problem is I requested them to be delivered on March 25!

Being a gentleman, he immediately offered to reship on the correct date.

Now I have 24 each of some of the oldest and purest lines of Barred Plymouth Rocks and White Jersey Giants eggs that I cannot hatch - and they are arriving Thursday

Anybody in southern California needing hatching eggs for hatchalong?

I may be closer. I think you mentioned Anaheim. I can probably hatch them but do you have plans for the chicks? I am in Hacienda Heights and my sis lives in Cerritos so I can work something out with you. Just let me know if I can help.

My plan for the eggs that are shipping on the correct date is to take them to the Philippines to hatch. I will be out of country when these lads hatch, I have no plans for monster chickens here - but I could certainly find them homes.
