here is a summary of my eggs set Friday - 5 days ago

all were shipped

faveroles came in egg cartons with some eggs upside down

brahmas 16 packed upright 5 lying sideways on top. one of the top eggs broke

campines were bubble wrapped on side

others beautifully packed

all eggs were low only bid auctions on the Sunday/Monday. i had all eggs by Thursday


i am not counting my chickens before they hatch but....it looks like i will have some cheap chicks March 24

A sweet caring human is trying to help out a roaming chukar in his neighborhood. It has an overgrown beak and isn't able to eat well, it does fly, but none of his neighbors will claim the bird.
I am assuming it is not a wild bird... but.. am I wrong? Do we have wild chukar in San Diego? (he's in La Costa)
Anyone have a chukar live-trap?

I am assuming it is not a wild bird... but.. am I wrong?  Do we have wild chukar in San Diego?  (he's in La Costa)
Anyone have a chukar live-trap?

In my Ameraucana pen alone last spring I had EIGHT broodies!!!

I was counting on those to be the hold outs in my broody nation. So far my hatchery Barred Rock and EE and the lavender Ameracuana have been the only hens not to go broody at all. The others are a bunch of setting fools. Which would be great if I had a rooster and was breeding something worthwhile, but they are sassy backyard hens and I can't keep indulging them!

Its raining its pouring.... and I can't sleep. So here are pics of my new silver penciled rock chicks about a week old, thanks to my local byc friend La Palma Chicks... they are soo cute and getting along fine with the cochins and buff orp babies
