San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Rosanne Brown of Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital not only sees chickens but she loves them and is a chicken owner herself.  They have other great vets but for chickens you want her.

Edit:
I assumed just chickens.  Janet Loken saw my ducks and she's fantastic, too.  Used to work there so can tell you from first hand experiance.  Will be a bit of a drive for you but don't know anyone else that I'd recommend.
This is who I take my chickens to too!! I've taken my desert tortoises there too. Highly recommend them :)

Anyone entering any birds in the show?: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/759876/serama-tabletop-show-june-8-2013-ramona-ca

We might have a couple of Seramas by this time. I think it would be fun for Cody to enter his new birds. We'll see . . . :cd I'm getting excited about it! :cd

Don't forget we'll be having a BYC meet up SAME DAY, SAME PLACE so MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! We won't do a raffle since the serama club
will be holding one. Last time they had a ton of great items.

It's a fun show if you've never been to one. :clap Just come out and hang out with your peeps :yiipchick

UM I JUST SAW A BOBCAT IN MY BACKYARD..... im kind of freaking out. I live on the edge of rancho santa fe and there is a lot of construction going on near my property. This thing was huge... bigger than my basset hound. it also had a tracking device on its neck. does anyone have any suggestions about who i could call to see if the thing is being tracked? I have two young goats and all my chickens in an enclosure, but theres no roof and this bobcat just scaled the 6 foot chainlink fence i have around my back yard.

the chickens are at risk. I lost thirty chickens in thirty days to a bobcat about eight years ago up at my house. Don't put out dog food for your dogs out side. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobcat Give the Humane society a call and they will have a referral number for wild life I am certain.

If you don't have a roof on your enclosure it would be a good idea to build one. Believe it or not just a good net will be a deterrent. Cats don't like to walk on flimsy surfaces. Hot wire is also a good deterrent. Run it around the fence at about the height a cat would stand up to test the footing for climbing. they have to touch the hot wire before they leave the ground. The shock is provided by completing the circuit between the wire and the surface of the ground. Once a predator knows a fence bites they will leave it alone.

My place is in Jacumba and at the time I got my feed in Boulevard. When I lost my chickens before I spoke to the feedstore owner. My guineas didn't get picked off and I mentioned they roosted in the trees. She said that the bobcats will go right up a tree for a bird. She raised Ostriches at the time and said she had a mountain lion kill two of them and she caught him dragging it out of the corral.

Your Seramas are adorable! I don't know anything about the breed, are they bantams? We have Bearded D'Anver's that we originally got to show via 4H but then Scouts got in the way.

I also live on the edge of rancho santa fe, and we have had bobcats in the area for several years. They are sort of celebrities where I am. They lurk around my place in hope of a meal but have never got one. I suspect they are fed locally. That said I have not seen a rodent of any sort for a very long time.
