San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Plan to go to the meetup this Saturday! Will there be a sign so I can find people from BYC?

This is my first BYC meetup and I am really looking forward to seeing backyard chicken lovers!

BTW, I have several 3 months old silver laced wyandotte and 2 days old gambel's quails for sale.  Let me know if anybody wants them.

Actually I have 30+ more Gambel's eggs waiting to be put in my bator.

But if I can't sell these chicks I have then I think I will just throw the eggs away

We'll have some pop ups set up with a table. It's not that big of a venue, you should find us easily. Enter the fairgrounds on Aqua Lane and park right there. Look forward to meeting you

Thanks Oz but it is too late. My husband came home with SIX new chicks. I need to call them ahead of time to tell them to watch out for him. I do have to admit the little girl is SO HAPPY running around with her new friends.

So now I have to downsize my flock and I love all of them. All girls and they all get along.

Maybe my neighbors will not be able to count? I am allow 25 chickens and I have 24 plus 7 chicks. 6 are bantams they should really be counted as 3 they are so small.

Hi All!

Hoping to be at the meet-up Saturday and see you all, it's been way too long
with none of my crazy BYC friends to visit, chat with.

Say, I haven't been on here much but wondering if anyone has noticed the Costco's
in Santee and Poway are selling a very nice Chicken lay Crumble from Minnesota,\
price is $14.95/Per 50#.

Nice size crumble and usual 16% protein. I will take a pic of label and post it.
Not trying to dissuade any of you from visiting your local friendly feed store,
BUT I tried to get a pallet price to perhaps share with friends and they would get close
to the same price but storing so much (40 bags) of feed 8% off, and having that much
of an investment at once is tough for me, and my chickens LOVE it!

OH..and the rumors that will most likely abound about me picking up feed
at the Poway Costco has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that the Poway Costco
sells at their food concession a 3 scooper waffle cone (FULL) of freshly made gelato
(choc, pistachio, and stracciatella choc chip..for $1.50).
Honest...that has nothing to do with it!

My husband (a type-A engineer) went out and physically counted my chickens last weekend. He did not buy into the popular theory that the babies didn't count as whole chickens...

Well my Dutch bantams could maybe pass for wild birds lol. I will delete them from my count I mean really how can they count? Anything under 1 and a half pounds should be count as pets don't you think?

At our house, that would not even qualify as a pet. I mean, pets cost money to feed...those couldn't eat much.... . . .

so im not fully understanding, your taking her chicks away and putting a new one under her? i must have missed part of this conversation.If you need new chicks i still have some wet in the bator.one is a black nn and several speckled Sussex just born last night. have one pipping too.

ok i have to ask. I told my son that i was taking the babies from momma and he doesn't want me to. NOW I am asking does anyone have one new chick so I can put with her? I don't trust myself going to get another one at the feed store I will come out with more than one.
