San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Speaking of eggs, the marans I hatched our from Dana are finally laying, and such nice dark eggs too! (only one today)

Also I found a HUGE egg too today! I feel sorry for whoever laid it lol

Hey Phage..... just curious.... what is your project with double yolkers?

I know they can be hatched but it has to be assisted. Are you raising up the little twinsies to see if they produce double yolkers?

I think It is the heat all of a sudden I been getting doubles as well at least one a week? Also I slipped two 4 day old chicks under my brooding hen and she just loves them!! Do hens get brooding fever? My 9 month old Plymouth barred rock will not leave the the nest now. She has been solid for 4 days. I kept taking her out all day. I thought these don't brood? My goodness it is one hen after another. This is the 3rd one? I have no eggs in there? Should I move her somewhere with no nest?

Just found this thread and got really excited. I live in Spring Valley (East county) and just got my first chickens in over 20 years- since I was a little girl in Alabama. I have a little flock of 4- 1 RIR, 1 Australorp, and 2 blue silkie bantams. Attaching some pics of my little girls but I pretty much just wanted to introduce myself. So hi, my name is Mary, and I'm a chick-a-holic. :)
Ruby LOVES to sleep on her humans!

Drax my Australorp....supposed to be a pullet but I'm a little worried that "she" might be a little roo :-/

My blue silkies- "cute" is an understatement

Hi Mary Lew and WELCOME!!

:ya :ya More chicken love in the world!

Keep reading this thread. We have meet ups whenever someone has the desire to put one on. Usually every 3-4 mos.
Probably will be one in the fall. . . . soon!

Hi, I would like to introduce myself Helen & my boyfriend Tony. I have raised poultry in the past for years but because of life changes, ie: moving to S.D. four years ago.
And loving it I might add...I had to stop for awhile. Tony mentioned one day he'd always wanted to raise chickens, well that's all he had to say!!!
We started off slowly in our chicken raising but as everyone knows that doesn't last long when you love chickens!
So over the last two years we have added to our collection of beautiful fowl and started hatching, etc... We currently have a pair of Jubilee Orpingtons and
are awaiting our trio of Sicilian Buttercups. I do a lot of research on breeds, breeders and everything else to do with our passion.
We have met many wonderful people in the San Diego Chicken community & we are loving it!
Here are some pictures of our life w/chickens: Our ranch name which represents Tony's Sicilian Heritage, One of my favorite things to walk by and see all the chicks sleeping together, some of our BYC egger girls enjoying a treat, Tony with one of the D'uccles, Driving home with gretchen our frizzle loves car rides lol, new brooder box

Tony built last weekend & Our first coop Tony built three years ago!
