San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Al, Don't worry! I won't say a thing.

I think you are on the right track but my chinese sucks and I will have to ask my mom but I think it has the word EGG in the Chinese name. It is not the kind that they steam. It is baked and I bake it in a Bundt pan. There is a similar type of cake at Goldilocks and they call it Mamon but it has butter and the one I make does not.

It is my favorite and my family loves it but I took it to a get together and no one there liked it so that is why I am a bit hesitant to bring it to the meet up.

I guess I need to catch up, I have been too busy lately with xmas, work and projects. I am coming Jan 22, I will bring duck eggs again, they aren't laying as much in this weather but I should have some by then. I'm not sure what food I will bring this time, but I will let y'all know. I will likely bring my kids with me and possibly one of my pets again?!

Nancy- I'm so glad you tried out baking with the duck eggs! I knew you would be surprised

I warn you, once you make cakes with them, you won't like the old cakes with chicken eggs so much anymore.
I have not tried making custard with them yet but I am curious how that comes out.

Cari-thanks for the PM. What time is the meetup? same as we did last time?

Al- hope you are enjoying the silky boys and they are working out well for you. Do you think the partridge kinda looks like chubakkah (however you spell that) from star wars? lol

Phage- I may be interested in the catdance silkies. I wish I could get away with having peacocks. <sigh>

I will bring a pair of 3 month old Bantam Cochins as a "trade". I also have several 3 month old Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin Cockerels for "give away" if anyone is interested. Let me know & I can send pics of both the Bantam Cochin pair & the MF. The coloring on the MF boys is beautiful. You can get started on your own Mille Fleur Cochin project if you have Buff, Buff Columbian or Black Mottled Bantam Cochin hens to breed to the MF cockerels.

I also have a 3 month old "trio" of Mille Fleur D'Uccle & "2 pair" of Black Mottled D'Uccle to sell if there is interest. Again PM me & I will send you pics.

Since keeping something warm will be difficult, I plan to bring potato salad. I also will have to leave about 3 pm in order to be home in time to feed & milk.

Can't wait to meet everyone & talk "chicken"~!

Nancy,

All cakes that are bake has the word egg in their names in Chinese. I am not sure what it is but I am sure it is good because our family eat everthing. Need a picture to be sure what it is.

I know what you mean about bring ethnic food, if I bring some Durians it would most likely send everyone out of the building.

Al, I think you know what it is but they do smaller versions and use a different pan. Oops....... I meant Angel Food Pan, I said Bundt by mistake. Sorry.

Yeah, I was the only Asian at this function and everyone ate all of my desserts except the Chinese Fluff Cake.

I may just bring it to the meet up. I figure your family and I can finish it.

You will send everyone out of the building except me. I will stay in the building stuffing my face. I LOVE durian.

I have to admit it is a acquired taste. A long time ago, I worked w/ a Asian girl and she brought Durian to work. I did not know she had it and it did not bother me but the next thing I know, the fire department was there. It was reported that there was a GAS LEAK.

I especially love it made Thai style w/ Sticky Rice. YUM!

Now I will be scouring LA and SD counties for Duck Eggs.

I would have lived my life not knowing any different if I did not hear BAKE with them. OMG! They made the cakes taste heavenly. So heavenly that I thought about raising ducks which I have never done before. I just do not have the room.

It will be so nice to see you and your daughters again. Are you bringing your house Duck? I will have to bring gloves.

I think the cupcakes will hold up this time. We do not have to worry about the heat just water this time.

Yes 11 sounds good! Especially since it's getting dark earlier and has been raining like crazy lately.

Tigerlily- Did you get the address of the place?

Nancy- I would LOVE to try your cake, I eat everything... if it's food I like it!

Also, in the spring, (depending on how my cornish project goes) I am thinking of getting some Silver Appleyard ducks from Holderread farms. Mostly for eggs and to help support the breed, they are a very large BEAUTIFUL dual purpose duck. So hopefully I will have lots of duck eggs available.
