Hi Deb and welcome to chicken mania. You'll love this thread.
I am thrilled that another meet up is planned. I have it marked on my calendar already.
I tried to follow up on the Hawthorne Country Store Chicken Days date and can't find any advertising on it yet. I'll call tomorrow and see if they have a date. I didn't know about it last year, but that is where I got my first 6 babies last April and they told me about it. Apparently they order tons of chicks for delivery in late February and it's a huge weekend event.
I've been trying to rush my latest babies (now three months old) into young adulthood so I can combine with the older girls and free up my small coop. Gosh, I planned to have six chickens, then I got three more (and two guineas), then I had a chicken attacked in the yard (and, sadly killed)....so I had to get four new babies to replace her....more chicken math here. The guineas were recently re-homed (way too LOUD and aggresive) so I'm 'down' to 12 birds
I have been dreaming about Chicken Days ever since I heard about it. Now that I have a strong laying flock, I can consider ornamental designer chickens. I think someone said earlier, silkies don't really count in the chicken math equation, right? And, I am really dying to have at least one green or blue egg laying chicken. And those Polish chickens are too cute...and now I've seen Seramas...and I can't beleive how gorgeous White Mountain Ranch's SLWs are.......the possiblilities are endless, and I have an empty brooder.
