San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

My mom is looking for another female duck. She prefers a white Muscovy as she used to have one as a child, but I think if she got one like Leia she'd get over wanting a Muscovy! If anyone has a NICE hen that they would like to find a good home for let me know. Thanks

ETA: Just saw these in the county shelter website. Anyone know what they are and how old a duck has to be to sex it? http://sddac.com/shelter_list.asp

Okay, so it's 3AM and I find myself on the chicken cam - quite entertaining! It's 6AM there so they're all just waking up, and goat is banging it's head against the hanging ball. Thanks for the fun link!

The coop is in Marthas Vinyard. and you can actually feed the chickens.

About when they start feathering out, the females have a louder more distinctive quack, and the boys have more of a quiet, whispery quack. When they are starting to get their "quacker" the females tend to have a crackling voice kinda like a pre-teen boy. lol
To me those ducklings look like they will be getting their voices sometime in the next 2-3 weeks.
Maybe you can adopt them both and wait and see. It's only around $2.50 to adopt them. Unlike chickens, it's easy to find homes for boy ducks because they are quiet.

Those ducklings are so cute, and I want all the bunnies. I think I could slip into "Crazy Old Lady Animal Hoarder" status way too easily...

(Thankfully, I am limited by money, space and a decidedly level-headed husband.)

Those Cocopops are neat! Are you ready for some snow this weekend, Cara? It will be crazy if we get some this low!

Cari - how are all the new babies doing?

Laurel - nice to see you here! My friend Karen and I still plan on coming up to your place as soon as she finishes her gate project.

I need to go get some outdoorsy things accomplished today before we get this next round of storms, including buying fresh shavings. That's another ridiculously expensive item - maybe we should band together again for a shavings group purchase? (Hey - I can dream.)
