RIP 1953-2021
Well Cracking Up and I finally connected.... Sorry Lois my computer took a dump.
And Now I have my first Guinea Keets in five or six years. Woo Hoo
They are sooo dang cute too. She brought me ten and we met up in Clairemont. They came home in a little cardboard box.
I forgot my plastic cat carrier. Once they got in the box and we settled in the car all peeping stopped except for the occasional trill or chirpie, and tapping of beaks on cardboard. I had to then drive all the way to Blossom Valley to get Turkey starter because all the close feed stores either don't stock it or were out.....
. And was delighted to find that Not only does Double S carry it but they have it for a good four dollars cheaper than those in Santee and Lakeside.
We were concerned we might lose one or two because their water had spilled a little on their way down from Valley center. Then the long tortuous trip back to Santee and my moms house. Poor planning on my part. Got the brooder set up the usual light bulb in plastic bin food and water and shelf liner. Opened the box and they were all SOUND asleep in a big pile.... and so toasty warm. I hated to roust them out of their slumber. At first i thought "oh my god" a couple were dead beaks shoved into the shelf liner spread out wings.... But as soon as I touched them they were up and scurrying about. Everyone transferred well to their new home for the next week or two. And when I left last night they were back in a pile under the light sawin ZZZZZs.
Mom checked on them at about eleven and they were all up and doing Keet stuff. She checked them again this morning for me and she says they have food ALL over the place.... Everyone is up and doing keet stuff again.... There are three in there that are about a week younger than the rest and they are doing just fine....
So today Mom and I are off to get better feeders and better waterer for that bin. The ones I have are too big for the space. And some more shelf liner and paper towels and maybe some other stuff that i don't need but have to have because I am Too excited.
OH and I will get some pictures Honest.
Thanks again Lois.
