Dana, I'm so sorry!! That is horrible! I worry about coyotes a lot at my house. I have seen them in my front yard, in my driveway, and just outside the backyard fence. I saw one the other night in a "standoff" with my neighbors cat. They were face to face, 15 yards apart, frozen, waiting for one to make a move... I pulled up the drive and my lights caught them. I hit the high beams and floored it, in hopes that my car would scare the coyote off, and save the cat. Fortunately it did work. They both ran off in the same direction, but I did see the cat on my roof not much later, so I know he was okay. But back to my chickens, my fences are only 4', so its an even easier jump. I resolved to only let them out of their coops when I'm home, and I can put my dogs out to watch them, or supervise myself. I still worry though. Why can't those coyotes be content with eating the squirrels??? There are thousands!! And I'm sure they taste just like chicken.
