20 or 22G are fine and so is the 3/4" needle.
I think you can get water soluble Tylan but from what I read on the peacock section giving the injectable kind and IM and into the breast is the fastest and safest way to give it.

If you have new sick birds I would not hesitate one second before giving it, if for no reason than to protect the birds you have. Even if the infection is viral it is very unlikely to do any harm.

I keep tylan, sulmet, vitamins, ivermectin and frontline, neosporin and vet wrap, syringe and needles in the birds supply box "just incase" .
Figure if you don't have something on hand, it will be the one thing you will need in an emergency and I live far from any decent feed store!!

Best of luck with your new guys. There seems to be quite a few diseases about San Diego just now. Maybe it is the "season" .

I know this is probably not the place to ask this but maybe it is.....

Since we are San Diegans and Southern Californians We have different climate Predator and Poultry keeping issues along with the regular stuff.

I would like to put together a First aid kit for Poultry.

I get the first aid stuff.... Emergency bandaging and blood stopping splinting....
And I know there should be a ""hospital"" cage away from the main flock.

So outside of what I have listed below what else should I keep.

First Aid Kit:

1. Big net for catching.... LOL.
2. Scissors
3. Blood stop powder (or white sugar)
4. Towel for restraining.
5. Disposable Rubber Gloves
6. Vetwrap (I keep it around for horses)
7. Betadyne for washing hands (can it be used on Chickens for washing wounds?)
8. Blue Coat
9. Neosporin or Polysporin
10. Gauze
11. I keep Oxytetracycline injectable for the horse and goats (can be used topically too on horses) Can this be used on poultry?

Hi Phage,
I had everything on your list except Tylan...figures.

Lynne was kind enough to come to my rescue and gave me enough to treat the birds I have at the moment.

Hi Perchie, I use Betadine to wash wounds, never Peroxide. I will dab on full strength if the wound is very dirty, then I will dab again with 10% solution. I'll be ordering some Tylan.

DH wants the chicks OUT of the garage ASAP.
This is not an unfair request as the dander is coating all his tools and bikes, (and he is not saying no more chicks).

Anyways do any of you have, or know of someone who has a used rubermaid-type shed or similar for sale, somewhere between 5x5 and 8x10 in size that could be used as a brooder shed?

Please let me know!

I rarely use Peroxide on the animals. Too drying and in horses it promotes granular or Proud flesh.

I threw that in there for the benefit of anyone that may be reading it. So many people pour it on, probably because that's what our parents did to us when we got a good scrap or cut.
