San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I'm up for a soap class, that would be awesome!!!

I don't think we're quite ready for another feed order yet, but we can start sending out feelers and collecting orders for those who are.

I'm always up for another meet-up, hoping the weather will cooperate! I'm assuming since it's the "off-months" it will be a smaller-ish one.

Yes we did process turkeys for thanksgiving, we haven't cooked ours yet though, but the other ones I heard were great! They were 17, 18.5, and 26 pounds. Almost the same as doing a large chicken, but the big one I could barely lift by myself!

Melinda, thank you for the pictures!!! The person that took a pair from that same hatch (and the only female) gave them back to me last week. He decided he needed more room for a different breed. So I've had the pleasure of tending to a few of my hatchlings too! They are very sweet. I'm glad they have their fathers' personalities. I have somebody with kids lined up to adopt them.

I would ask Tammy or Gumbii if they have any OEGB pullets available. I don't think either do BBreds, but you could get some other neat colors out of them.

Renee- I'd be up for a soap class!! Let me know!

Hey guys,

I heard you do a group order from Modesto Milling once a month or so. I was wondering if someone could give me some details on that. What does a 50 pound bag of lay end up costing usually? Where do you have it delivered?

Also, does it negate the benefits of organic lay if I am also feeding my gals non-organic food scraps?

Thanks!

i just check the calendar and just noticed only 3 weekends before christmas.wow here it comes ready or not.

im already commited on the 3rd and 10th
so is the 17th alright to do the soap class?

thought do a pot luck style and white elephant exchange or something fun like that.

ill have to decide how many can make soap but keep the the get together open to whomever would like to come.
i have a feeling it will be small since it is so close to Christmas.so needless to say the soap takes 3 or so weeks to cure.

what do you think?
jamming to much into one event?
im not a good planner so im so open to everyones thoughts

ETA: I do not think it "negates" the fact as the fewer food you can give them with chemicals the better! However "technically" you couldn't sell them as organic chickens or eggs.

Hi Paulo!

There was a lady named 'onthespot' on here that had some, I think she was moving though and I don't know if she sold her stock.

I also believe there are some breeders in the Antelope Valley.
