Sunny, How is your chick doing? I know how difficult it is to hatch eggs. I have had hatches like that with only 1 hatching. I have had to play god and it is a horrible feeling. I am praying for the little guy.

Nancy

Well, I expected it to be dead this morning, but the little guy was still breathing, laying in the same place he was when i left him at bedtime. I pulled him out, put drops of Sav A Chick on his tiny beak, he perked up. I mushed up some banana in water, and fed him drops of that, and he was actually motoring around the incubator when I left for work. Its very unpredictable. I will drive home about 1pm on my lunch break to check on him, give him some more food and water. I swear, so much drama from one tiny Serama!!! I really want the chick to make it. The longer it lives, and the more involved I get with it, the more attached I'm getting. Its so hard when they go from limp to running around, back to limp... its a roller coaster!

Thanks Nancy, I appreciate you thinking about us.

It sounds like he is getting hypoglycemic... are you feeding him every hour or two? The smaller they are the more susceptible to it they are... quail especially, even the adults, if they skip a day eating it's like they go down fast.

Well...... I raise orphaned bottle baby kitties for the the Cat Rescue and they are the same way... they have to eat every 2 hours during the day and every 3 at night, at least for a few weeks... it's like taking care of a baby.. I get everything ready before bed-time and I then set my alarms so it's spaced evenly throughout the night.

Cari - I'm so sorry about the job... that's terrible.

Nancy - many of the feed stores around here sell small bags of things like hay, so you don't have to commit to a whole $20 bale of anything. Might be worth asking.

Sunny - I am pulling for your chick!

I'll get my check in the mail tonight for the MM order.

Update- Little chick is actually doing well! I came home, and he was standing tall, running around the incubator without falling down. He drank and ate for me. He isn't very strong though. I had him in my regular brooder, and it seemed he can't handle the heat from the lamp. He gets weak and just collapses. I guess he's just going to need some extra TLC. I'll snap a picture in a bit, so you all can see the little one.
