Love the plastic hen house - so easy to keep clean!! , but wish it was way bigger and way cheaper.

luvinbluechickens has some blue laced red wyandottes and blue maran eggs for sale and is traveling north next week so may be able to deliver if anyone is interested. Please pm or email her if you are. They are mostly Paul/Hoppy lines.

We also have some 1 wk BLRW chicks if anyone is interested.

I just saw the ad for that plastic hen house in Backyard Poultry magazine. It reminds me of Little Tikes play equipment, and it will probably last forever.

I have been stewing over paint colors since I saw those photos of Allison's coop... I really want to paint mine now!

Looks like the Ramona order will be delivered around 11:30 today. I'll try to get everything sorted and ready for pickup starting this afternoon if you need things quickly. (I can store it for you if you're not ready.) I will PM the actual recipients later with my address and directions.

For the fifth time in the last couple of weeks, I woke up to chickens wandering around the yard. The escape hatch: a torn/chewed out section of chicken wire. The upside is that the instigator seems to be after food, not meat. The downside is the coops are becoming Frankensteinesque patches of welded wire repairs.

Options:

Trap it? (Then what do I do with it?)

Remove food every night an put back every morning?

Face the inevitable need to replace my two crappy coops with one big properly built one?

Is is feasible for you to replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth? That's what I would do. Much tougher.

I would probably do a few of those things. I would try to trap and then dispose of it.

You do not know what is tearing into poultry wire. Another thing is when they let the chickens out, something else can get them even if the original predator wanted feed.

I would use hardware cloth and try my best to predator proof it.

Hi Michael,

My thoughts are if you trap it - it doesn't really solve the real problem- which is that your coop is weak to predators. Better off building a proper coop and definitely use hardware cloth.
