San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hi KKH - I am planning to attend and will bring deviled eggs to share as well as a fruit salad. I don't have any extra chickens to bring, but am interested in buying berry bushes and other goodies folks are bringing. Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Is anyone else having difficulty with the new site using PM? The screen seems to take on a life of its own, with the curser locked on scroll function. I got so frustrated I gave up.

For Phage, I thought I had two Lav Am girls and one boy from the chicks I got at the last meet-up in October....they would be about 5 months old now. I re-homed the boy last week and then heard crowing coming from their coop this morning. I swear, the comb on this bird (that looked just like a pullet) turned bright red and tripled in size in the last few days. Bummer. I guess #2 roosters are a bit late to develop.

I am hoping to be able to resist new chicks at the meetup....

Have you tried reseting your internet? I haven't had that problem with the PMing. If it continues you can always post in the "glitches" section or pm a moderator.

Hope that helps!

I'm bringing about 10 thornless blackberry bushes and I'll set one aside for you.

An older gentleman that is a friend of my boss, is looking for a standard sized rooster for his hens. I know somebody had a pair of Leghorns that they wanted to rehome, but I can't find who that was... Does anybody else have a nice rooster for sale? Not too expensive?

I have about 20 nice roosters. LOL! There are ALWAYS nice roosters looking for homes... lets see he can choose from brown, blue, lavender, black, or multi colored.

That was GoodLuckCharlie! with the leghorns. I would give him a beautiful Swedish Flower Cockerel. I've got a couple of cockerels that I need to rehome. They're super friendly and crested. I want to find nice homes for my boys, otherwise I'll keep them. As young as they are they're amazing when a hawk flies overhead. They have they long legs and take off running...for me! LOL! SAVE ME MAMA! LOL! I'm sure they'll gain courage as they grow older.

Woo hoo just scored some nest box material..... Asparagus boxes. They are all corrugated plastic totally washable and have perforations perfect for California climate....

Doesn't look like much but as it sits in this vendor picture its 13 tall 12 wide and 16+- deep. I am going to put a solid piece in the bottom to keep air from circulating there but every where else will stay as is.

They came from Sprouts grocery store.... Right now they are having a biggg sale on Asparagus. And to save them from being ""baled"" into the cardboard baler you need to Grab em up. Right now the Sprouts in Santee is going through 40 of these just in the morning.

I was doing some thinking this morning. If I'm having Renee hatch me some eggs, I really need to reduce the number of chickens I have here now. Hovering around the "20" mark seems to be a good fit for me, soooooo.... I'm going to offer up some laying hens. These girls are good layers and have already gone through their first molt.

1. Partridge Cochin - a big girl, she's prettier than this picture shows. Brown eggs. She's the one
in the middle, right above the Barred Rock.

2. Salmon Faverolle - my most "chatty" chicken; we call her Frenchie. Small light brown egg,
almost creamy looking.

3. & 4. Barred Rocks - I have four of them, and I'm willing to part with two. Great birds who lay
lots of big, brown eggs.

I don't know what the market is on nice, laying hens. I say some pretty awful Red Stars with cut beaks and sparse feathers going for $15 recently, so I'm going to say $20 each. These are all nice girls, and have been raised on organic feeds from day 1. Let me know if anyone is interested, and I'll have them penned separately for the meet-up.

I'm going to stick this on the other San Diego list, too, so please forgive the double posting.
