RHRanch, I'm glad you have an alarm and are using it now...making me get out my book to see how to set mine again. Take that seriously, someone is really being invasive and you never know their motivations....just be careful!!!

I hope you dont mind me asking a somewhat newbie question here!
My Australorp went broody in mid May, lasted about 3 weeks then took her about 10-14 days to lay again. The past few days she has been hiding in the dog crate again (their nesting box and where she sat on her golf balls) for hours at a time. Every morning for a few hours, then out for a few, then back in. Last night DH locked her in there bc she tried to peck at him when he went to put her in with the other ladies. Is she really going broody again so soon?? She hasnt layed in about 4 days that I can tell, but neither has my bantam....squirrels do steal our eggs so I'm not entirely sure.
Another factor....Saturday we moved the 5 weeks old chicks outside to our new coop, which is right beside our old coop with the hens. Could this be affecting her behaviour?? They can hear them chirping, and can see them during the day when I put the chicks outside into their little run, none of my 3 hens has given them a second look (the turkey is most interested), but once when one let out a loud screech, Ivy (the Auss) did come running across the yard to look at them and then left immediately.
What do you think??? If she is going full on broody should I try to put eggs under her (umm, which I would need your help withwith some chicks at 6weeks old now??

Thanks, I am going to be careful from now on, it's been a real wake up call. - I don't know why I have not set my alarm, other than I just took it for granted that I didn't "need" it, I guess. I actually forgot about it until one of my brothers asked me why if I had a possible intruder I had not been setting my alarm. I felt sheepish. LOl
I would go with the cameras before the alarm or changing locks. I would want to know who it is. Just changing locks and setting an alarm and you will never know who it was I would have to know. Can you go on not knowing who the creep was and when he'll (or she) will start doing it again ?

Thank you Allison....but I don't need any more rescues. This Mama came to us when she was 4 weeks pregnant. She was starving & I couldn't turn her away. She is getting spayed next week. We have found homes for three. These are the 3 that are left- One boy & 2 girls.....Oh...you offering a trade? Mine are all fixed![]()
Hello, I'm new. I couldn't make it down to the fair this year but I was wondering when and where the next meetup or show would be?
Thank you
