San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Maybe I'm cheeping up the wrong roost here.... but I've gotta try. These are gorgeous 5 1/2 week olds and would be hand delivered to ya within reason.... I'm not equipped with a plane after all....

but, yikes... please don't make me have to take them to the feed store. My first hatch guys that need to be gone. (sigh) Blue Copper Marans....

Let me know if anyone's interested.

Sorry jandrusrn usually there is someone that will take extra roosters, but being spring everyone has roosters they are trying to get rid of right now. Were not taking anymore here at White Mountains Ranch until September.

And

Hello friends of WhiteMountains Ranch: We are opening a couple additional spots in our new 'Chicken Meat-Bird Preservation' Co-Op. Please message or email me if you would like more details. Thank you!

White Mountains Ranch is also still looking for 5 x 10 and 10 x 10 dog kennels and 6' chain link and hardware, please pm if you are selling any, thank you!

Hi - I am interested. I have chicks the same age. I can give them a good home and then I may eventually need to rehome some but I'd do my best to ensure they went to a good home.

Let me know if I can help.

If I wasn't growing up some of my own Black & Blue Copper boys, I'd be interested. Here's my two up and coming roos, just a hair past eight weeks now:

I hope you find a happy solution for your boys!

wow Dana..... I am truly disappointed that we can't have these amazing birds in our flock. The blue was what struck us first when we were peeking around at eggs to try our hand at hatching. Now we have raised them, loved them, treated them and absolutely called them our own..... if only we lived in a place with more space. (sigh) AaaaaaaaMaaaaaaZiiiing.

I'm sad for you... I am a total Marans convert! I love the sweet personalities of these guys, and love having them around. We're lucky to live out in the semi-sticks, so I can have as many roos as my ears and space allow. I know it's really hard to let them go, but I've done that, too. And I've even eaten some of the excess boys - when you've spent so much time and effort (not to mention the $$$ feed bills) raising up the nicest birds you can, it's great to be able to have them serve a useful end. In that way, the boys are just as valuable as the girls.

If you want to hatch later, I know several people on this board that would be happy to supply you with fertile Marans eggs...

Haaaaa! Funny enough I've got a total of 13 babies that I'm going to be rehoming. I do love the hatching, but let's face it, when I live in a tract home in suburbia and have to fight as hard as I do for the hens I have, I really have to watch the Incubators Anonymous type addiction that I have... and yes.....I'm already on that thread.

The thought has crossed our minds to rehome ourselves sooner rather than later to help with the peace and serenity in our lives and I'm just certain that a rooster or four would help this situation. We have a BCM too that I'm relatively sure is a pullet, hope she stays local so I can have visitation.

The last 20 eggs I got were from the raffle here in May! Gorgeous birds..... aaaah serenity with feathers.

We live in the extreme suburbs and are trying to sneak a roo in... he was my daughter's beloved chick who grew up to be a little dude. So far so good. We've started having him sleep in the garage, and knock on wood he's not much of a day time crower. (5 a.m., he had that down. Grrr.)

My daughter knows that if he gets to be too noisy, we can't keep him, but he may just work out as a night time garage-roo.

Are you kidding me?!! I just picked up 3 cats ( mama & 2 kittens) from the Feral Cat Coalition, hoping to train them to be safe around chickens. :barnie
