I have decided to sell my quail. I like them, but I don't like what they do - no matter how I arrange them, they keep killing/beating each other. So, I thought I would offer them to you guys before I put them on craigslist, maybe someone on here is a quail person and can do better than them than I can. I have 2 kinds of whites (english and I can't remember the other) and glory golds, autmn ambers and some darker ones I am not sure about, some with white on them, maybe from tuxedo project. Anyways, I have about 15 or so left, I would like $100 for them or best offer. All are young, hatched this spring.

Good morning all,

So I had someone lined up to take my Blue Cochin roo (Daenerys, renamed Lil Pecker) that started crowing last week. It seems to have fallen through. Anyone have a home for him? My production red, Pecker, hasn't crowed yet, so I am holding out hope that Pecker is a she.

Those Wellie eggs are cool! I have one that lays a nice matte and one that is laying an amazingly speckled egg - deep brown, with super dark speckles. They are so darn pretty...

My incubator was supposed to be rocking and rolling on Thursday night/Friday morning, but one little chicklette has already made an appearance. (A Wheaten Ameraucana.) I am always amazed at how loud a new chick can be! I am wondering if the super warm/humid conditions we had here last week contributed to the faster hatch rate at all.

I wanted to follow up on my two broody question.

My broodies have been doing really well together. They have nests on either side of the run, and the babies know who is mom, and the mamas leave the other's chicks alone.

The only one having a rough time of it (in a minor way) is the rabbit, who lives with the chickens. She likes to zoom around the run, but the mama hens get mad if she's anywhere near the babies and chase the bun off. (Normally the chickens just scatter). The bun is ok, she's just spending more time in her chicken-proof hideaway where I keep her food and toys.

Ugh, four more young Pekins dumped today at Lake Murray! I believe these are all males, except one did have a rather loud "peep", but it sounded like it was turning raspy. They also didn't vocalize as much as females do, though one seemed to be more vocal than the others. I am guessing about 2.5-3 months old.



Louie, the Chinese gander came over and checked them out. They were smart enough to move away from him, though slowly. I think he was hoping he'd find some girls. I think he tried to mate with that one injured girl last time. He said "hi" to them and left. Later, he came back and tried to get them to join the rest of the geese, but I don't think they spoke his language.



A kid hit one with a rock, but his mom made him apologize to the duck and told him how sad it was. The duck seemed OK, he hit him on the wing/side and the duck barely moved away.

I sure hope there aren't any girls in there.

Ugh indeed! Why can't people think before they do this to poor birds? If I had the room I'd go check them out. Do they seem to be doing okay? In the pictures you posted they all appear healthy.
