San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hey guys,

Sorry I have been MIA. Moving has been absolutely crazy and we STILL aren't done! I feel like this is never going to end. AND At&t screwed up our phone and internet order so we have been "off the grid" for almost 2 weeks now. =(

This is our last week moving and today and for the next couple days we will be moving the critters so please let me know if anyone would like to come help, we could definitely use it!

Thanks and hope I haven't missed too much while I was away!

Hey Cari I Just read the HayGuy's website and they allow Co-Op purchases. (paid in advance)

http://www.hayguy.com/news.htm

If you buy 260-280 bales the price is 16.00 a bale
If you buy 480-500 bales the price is 15.50 a bale

you pick a day when people can come get it and he will have help to load it up for you. And If someone cant be there That day the yard is open on Saturdays. And I believe it can be a mixed load too but youd better ask.

I have 4 gray male kittens that will be ready for new homes in about 3 weeks. They are very sweet and love playing on my feet when I am laying in bed. I would love them to go to my fellow BYCers so i know they will be taken care of and not just tossed out on the street. We still have momma here but the dad died of a rattle snake bite 3 weeks before they were born. Born 7-20. I will post pics if anyone is interested.

Seems like a lot of us have furry (non-chicken) babies for sale right now... We should have a "non-chicken" section at our next meet up! LOL When is the next meet up, anyways?

Anyone headed up to the Sacramento area that could transport some cockerels? They'd make great traveling companions. They don't talk, but they will cock their heads and hang on your every word.

Hey San Diego Chicken Lover Friends. I need your help. Now that my chicken math as expanded exponentially, I need to get a bigger coop for my peeps. Would any of you all be so kind as to help me raise enough money to purchase a new one ( http://vannahaines.chipin.com/a-new-chicken-coop )

Here's a picture of what I'm looking to get: http://www.mypetchicken.com/images/product_images/ProductDetails/HH4576174.jpg

It's super cute and would fit the decor of my backyard perfectly...the whole whimsical type of theme.

Help me help my peeps!

Thanks,
Valerie

Forgive me, but are you serious? I just looked up that coop and it runs anywhere from $1800.00 to $2899.00... that is very steep pricing, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't include shipping.

Because no one I know has buckets of excess cash sitting around, most of us here take great satisfaction in building our own coops from recycled materials and repurposed items. Maybe you should try your hand at making your own coop for your ladies? You already have the idea in your head about the design you'd like, and that's half the battle.

Sorry Valerie, but that's not going to fly here. There's the old saying "Where there's a will there's a way." . . . and it's not begging off your friends!

I'm a housewife, yet I managed to build a coop by myself and I think it turned out pretty nice...never did anything like it before. There's a certain amount of pride when you accomplish something on your own! What you CAN ask for is help with ideas, construction questions, materials that people might have laying around, etc...You CAN do it!!

Look for used fruit crates. Lots of the construction is done for you, it can be the back 1/2 of a coop fairly easily. Cover the holes with hardwire cloth and put a ladder up the back and you've got a roost, easy pisey. we just used one of these for the back 1/2 of our silkie coop, it was 20 bucks off cl.
( sorry to barge in your thread I lived in OC for 10 years so I read every once in a while, DH was born in Laguna beach)
