Odd how it is Ok to caponize without anesthesia a chicken, but try to neuter your dog or cat without anesthesia and you would likely get arrested for animal cruelty. Why does pain in a "food" animal not count????

I am not sure that MDs are allowed to neuter dogs and cats even with full anesthesia. I asked once as would gladly help with ferrel cat neutering if I could.

Plymouth Rock
Ameraucana other than black or wheaten (sorry Dana, I don't hate you!)

Black Star
or one that lays giant eggs, maybe even double yolkers.

That's true. Like I said, I would like to find someone who does it to ask more questions and learn. I don't see why I couldn't get some local pain killer from my vet, or have him do the procedure. I'm just talking and asking questions, not waving around a knife, lol.

When I was looking into how I could keep a rooster in the suburbs, I seem to recall (I could be wrong) that I read caponizing won't stop crowing?

It seemed to me that the only reason to caponize (and its hard) is if you're into gourmet food. There's a reason not many people do it anymore!

I wouldn't want to keep a rooster who was a jerk to my hens. Or to me for that matter! My chickens are egg-making backyard pets, and I don't need to worry about breeding or whatnot. We've been lucky with Peep the Pocket Rooster - he's a lady's man, but he's sweet to the girls when he's not taking pony rides and he's good with us. He also doesn't crow during the day.

He crows in the morning while in the garage, and that's it. It melts my heart every time I see him in the yard, cluck-cluck-clucking to let the girls know he has a tidbit for them to eat.

I really enjoyed the meet up today it was nice to put faces to some of the names, it was really nice meeting every one, I learned a few things. saw some really beautiful birds and made some good contacts. I can't wait until we get the pens built so I can get some more of the kinds of birds that I want.
I told my mom about the cute Seramas now she has to have a little pet chicken. Lol

Why was it so hot?! I enjoyed meeting so many new people today and seeing all the familiar faces. I didn't follow my own rule of coming back with the same number of chickens that I left with , but THANK YOU Miriam. I have a wonderful start to a diverse SFH flock.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to the raffle table. Thank you Deb for coming early to get us our good spot. It was nice to have the shade! If anyone wants to plan the next meetup I have some seed money from the raffle to pass on.

Also, don't forget that the Serama Club will be holding a show next month. Tables are available for craft items. Cara (SunValleySeramas) said that the BYC'ers could go in together and have a table. Just putting it out there for those that might have things to sell. Contact info below:

) a sweet delaware rooster (don't think he is purebred though) let me know. I don't want him to end up in a pot, he is too tame, he follows us everywhere. He is young, approximately 2 months or so.
