San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I have money from the last meet up raffle that I would be happy to pass on if you feel that the group would benefit from the exposure. I think it's a great idea, but I don't have anything to sell. Just want to support our peeps!
I MIGHT have some very nice chicks--is it okay to bring chicks to this event to sell? Maybe something else as well, not sure yet...

****** YES YOU CAN BRING CHICKS EGGS< emus, what ever you want to sell, Home made. If you bring chicks try to bring eggs the color the hens will lay, that will grab people. they are very excited about us coming and this will be a GREAT contact for BYC to have an indoor meeting facility. Bring, Jam, Chicks, eggs, crafts, soap, what ever...

Does anyone know if there are any beekeepers/apiarists in the San Diego area that sell their honey? I'm looking to buy about 15 lbs to make some mead.

Hi everyone!

I don't know if you know who Doug Lake and the Emergency Animal Rescue group is? They were the one who helped rescue the mama duck and ducklings that fell down a storm drain near the 125 last year. He has asked me to ask around and see if anyone is available to foster wild ducklings in the future. Sometimes, when they are on a call where ducklings are in trouble, the mom often abandon the ducklings for her own safety. So, he said they really need to find places where they can either be kept temporarily until a more permanent situation comes up, or a place where they can be kept until they're old enough to be released. He would probably help you with any permits and paperwork you might need.

He has a group on FB, but I think you have to ask to join. This is his FB group link, I don't if the link will work:

You can probably also contact him personally on FB, too.

Right now, he is helping rescue horses in various parts of the country. If he needs help with ducklings, it would more likely be in the spring.

I feel bad for posting this, because I don't want to trash Modesto Milling, but I thought I should report that one of my bags of scratch from a group shipment was INFESTED with weevils. As in, I noticed the unopened bag in my garage was making a lot of noise ... opened it and just an unbelievable amount of bugs. I can't really do justice to how badly the bag was infested.

I'm not mad at Modesto Milling, but I am definitely not sure I'll order from them again.

I gave up on them too a while back due to getting a bag of dust. Also I know it s organic, but I just can't justify paying that much $$ for chicken feed.

Figured we get about 2 eggs per bucket of feed

.
Hope you fed the bugs to the chickens. At least they will love them.
