Much debate about sand versus pine shavings. I'm pretty set on sand after reading about it. My questions are; for those of you who use sand as coop litter, do you prefer to have it hauled in by the truckload from your local supplier or have you found it easier/better to use bagged? And I've seen it called so many different things. I don't know if this is normal or what so if I call and ask questions about it, what do I ask? :idunno I feel dumb but this is my first round of chicks and I'm new to all the things and I want to make sure I ask the right questions, provide my girls with things that are helpful, not harmful and keep them healthy. I've already made the most noob mistake ever and ended up with two chicks of unknown origin (no idea what breed they are and won't know for weeks :barnie) So... help? lol. Or just tell me I'm being extra nutty and I'll go about my way. :duc

Washed sand of mixed Agrigate is best.... Get it bulk Save big bucks... Ues a wheel barrow with two wheels on it.... so much easier to move the san... you loose balance you just let it go and it sets backup...

The company will figure out your amoutn for you just tell them square footage for the most of the area and how deep. they have calculators. Id get some extra for the nest boxes too. But they always round up a bit anyway...

Believe me A yard of sand goes a long way. I Bought sand for my horse corral.... Five yards .... Horse corral was 24 x 24 feet square... That was enough to fill in the low spots and give my horse a soft place to lay down. That was about 20 years ago so I couldnt give you a price.

Awesome!!!!! Super Duper helpful!!!! So glad I know what to ask for now. I get extremely tongue-tied on the phone. Way too much anxiety to try to explain myself to people I don't know. Haha! Thank you so much!!!

:frow Hi, Miss Marple, and welcome to the flock! Don't worry about asking "dumb" questions, ask away, the worst that can happen is we will look at each other and wonder, "why didn't we think to ask that?" ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome!! Lord have mercy, I appreciate it because my fried and frazzled brain is trying to soak up all the chicken knowledge, learn chicken math and figure out the best way to do things in our coop as we finish it up for our 2 week old chicks in the brooder. I have so many questions but I keep finding all my answers here. I love this place!!! I learn something new every single time I look at a post. Now, if I can just retain as much as possible, I'll be set! Maybe I should wear earplugs to hold in all the knowledge. :lau
