Sand as litter?

Mine is 10x10x6 and I do plan to add another of the same size which will make it 10x30x6. I think I'd like to bury some 1/2 inch hardware cloth this time to prevent snakes! Eeeek! I'm also dreaming of some sort of tractor so they can move around the yard eating ticks Ticks have become a serious enemy here. My daughter was bit, has lunges and Babesiosis now. It has caused her to be weak, in pain, and now has a severe stutter. Chickens to the rescue!

The first I got chickens I decided to raise them from chicks. I got 6 Rhode Island reds. For the first 1 and a bit weeks I had them just in paper towel over news paper and after that I switched them to play sand in a huge watermelon box until they were ready to go outside. It worked great. I used a cat litter scoop everyday to keep it all clean. The only thing is you have to refresh water a lot because they will kick and scratch sand into it. Other then that I’d say it’s great.

Hanging nipple waterer solves that.

Im goning to add a day run but haven't quite figured out a plan on that yet. I want them to free range but too many predators in my area if Im not with them 24/7 to p

... To protect them. So the day run needs to be secure but not cost as near as much as the coop and attached safety run.
