Yes, I use sand in my coop and I love it! I have a poop board under my roost that I keep newspaper on and just change that out daily, maybe takes me five minutes to clean and it is always clean. They rarely poop in there on the sand, but if they do I just pick it up. I only have a couple inches of sand in there and it is the same sand that has been in there for the past year and a half. It’s not dirty and it doesn’t smell. These pictures were taken about a year apart.Hi, Does anyone use sand inside their coop? Wondering how you manage it. Do you use on the run as well? Thanks!
How did you manage to convince them of that?! Mine poop all the time all over the sand floor.View attachment 1801114 View attachment 1801113

Oh, they just don’t really poop in the coop, only off the roost. They poop in the enclosed run, but not that much there either. It seems like they mainly poop in the open outdoor run. I usually let them out there around nine in the morning. How did you manage to convince them of that?! Mine poop all the time all over the sand floor.
Yeah, I like to keep it really clean and it is really easy with the poop board. I cut a piece of linoleum and put it on top of the plywood so it doesn’t get wet and I can also keep the extra newspaper underneath the linoleum for the next days change. It just takes me a minute in the morning to roll it up and throw it away. Yes, the curtains are for the nest areas. I have a kitty litter box in the middle and then each side is also a little nest. They like their privacy! It’s all under the poop board. Thanks for the picture. It really helps. Your coop looks really clean. The curtain on the bottom left is for the nest boxes?
Are you in a desert area of Cali?I only have a couple inches of sand in there and it is the same sand that has been in there for the past year and a half.
No, I’m about a mile from the beach and the mountains are on the other side about a couple miles away. Why?Are you in a desert area of Cali?
Because sand works best where its really dry.No, I’m about a mile from the beach and the mountains are on the other side about a couple miles away. Why?
