Hi, just wondering if sand could be used in a brooder for baby chicks? Seems like a easy way to keep it clean while the babies are gowing. any thoughts?

Anybody?
can sand be used instead of pine shavings? is it safe as bedding for chicks in brooder? Thanks

I use sand in the brooder, also in the coop and run. It is great! For your brooder, cover the sand with paper towels for the first 3 or 4 days until your chicks learn where their food is.

Enjoy!

my chicks have had sand in the brooder as grit since their first week. i didnt give them the sand at first because i didn't want them to confuse it with food. so i waited until a week was passed and then gave them a sandbox to play in. they love it.
