Sand in the brooder?

Yours is a good question, but you might want to start a new thread to get some direct responses to it (and to not detract from this thread, which asks a very different question).
In one word: use sand. Gravel is a nightmare.

This depends on the humidity of your air. We always have less than 10% humidity, sometimes 0%. Since changing over to the sand, there is no smell and no wet spots. If you rake it and move it around, it should dry out rather quickly.

I will have the heat lamp on for a few more weeks, so maybe I won't have a problem with dampness in the sand. Seems like with only 2 chicks ("Nettie" and "Darla") it might work. I can always try it and change things up later.

Thanks for all the advice!
