When can you give quails sand,and is play sand ok?

I now use all purpose sand. It's coarser and drains better. The playsand seemed to remain wet longer and it would dry really hard. It also made cement poop balls that would occasionally get stuck on a bird's foot. That issue mostly disappeared with the regular stuff.

I would start giving them dirt or sand at about 2-3 weeks. Don't use play sand. It clumps, and if they eat it, it is possible to cause crop problems. Construction/all purpose sand is much better. Plain old dirt from your garden works too.
