Hoovers hatchery advertised them as new , even though I'm not sure they were . I bought some , raised them and O , I love this breed .
That was 2018 . A month ago I incubated my first batch of eggs to replace my layers , naively planning to sell the cocks immediately . Surprise ! The hatch does not look a bit like their parents did . More like , well , mutts ... no color sexing cocks at this point , I now realize the gems are a sex link .
Going forward what rooster can I run with my gem hens to maintain something similar to original ? Does anyone know what the breeds are they use to create the gem ?

Gems are a blue sex link using barring on the hen side. The specific lines used commercially will not be available, but understanding sex linking will allow you to come up with your own "recipe". Sex links do not breed true, as you now see, you will need to start each batch from the parent breeds, not breed the offspring, if you want sexable chicks

Yes those are the originals.
You'll notice the places selling them use their pics even.
Hoover's offered them first and made claims that they imported hatching eggs of the parental stock to produce their gems.
A very simular hybrid can be made using splash andalusians roosters over barred rock hens. That may even been what Hoover's did.
