Hi everyone,
I have 24 chicks, one was not in my original order as my son really wanted a lavender or blue chick for his own. The hatchery has a Sapphire Gem in the extra group, so I snagged one for him, he is THRILLED to have his little chick Muffin. I was reading about Sapphire Gems, and it appears they are bred with a Blue Rock or Blue Andalusian & a Barred Rock. (Please inform me of other ways to create this cross if you know of any!)
The hatchery sells Barred Rocks, but not Blue Rocks or Andalusian. They do have Lavender Orpingtons, and Blue Laced Red Wyandotte’s. So any guesses on what the beautiful grey chick dubbed Sapphire Gem might be crossed with? Any chance he has only a breeding roo with a bunch of Barred Rock hens?
Thanks so much! Here are some pics of Blueberry Muffin, the “Sapphire Gem” for reference.
