Hello BYC, this will be my first winter as a chicken mama! I didn't realize that some breeds can lay all winter and some stop completely. (I think Plymouth Rocks lay throughout so I'm hoping they got that gene!) My SG hens started laying in September and are still laying everyday with 11-12hrs of daylight. The hatchery I got mine from unfortunately had no idea if they will continue to lay through winter or stop completely without a light source.

I had always planned to not add a light and let their bodies do what was natural, but I'm also wondering if we might run into sparse grocery store shelves this winter (like this past spring), I'd really like to at least have eggs to eat! :) Since they won't molt until next year I'm hoping it won't be too stressful if I need to add a light this year.

If their production slows down a bit I'm ok with that, just hoping it doesn't stop completely. Anyone out there know? :fl

That would be great if they do, thanks! :) I knew they were part plymouth rock but didn't realize both parents were. The hatchery says they are "a breed very close to the Old Andalusians" so I wasn't too sure how they would do
