Sarah giving up?

Don't beat yourself up over the "woulda/coulda/shoulda" scenarios. None of us are perfect but as long as we do our best and learn as we go, that's what's important. Take care.

Too late...already doing that

I'll try to stop though it's hard right now.....It's a VERY helpless feeling knowing there is one more step, had I just thought, that I could try. and not have the $$$ or access to the equiptment needed. Trust me, I learned another hard lesson at the expense of Sarah! Poor little dear!!!! Has to die due to my mess up!

Thank you NorthFLChick! I think I'll go hold Sarah for a while now and tell her how sorry I am!!!

Thank you all for the support, help and suggestions!

Green poop is from not eating(starvation)birds require a constant supply of food to fuel their high metabolic body, without this constant supply of energy they become lethargic(often go into a type of suspended animation)and sleep, what they are doing is trying to conserve whatever energy they have left. Tube feeding may help, but i understand many do not feel comfortable doing it,tubing supplies can be a simple as aquarium tubing and a syringe(this is what i use)the food i used for tubing consisted of pablum, garlic, ground dry crumbles, cat food(all ground up in blender) and mixed with an electrolyte solution, baby food can also be added. I used this solution b/c i could not find baby bird food and time was crucial,so i made up my own mix, tube fed my rooster for 7 days, after that time he started eating on his own.

Or in an emergency situation in the back of toilets(lift lid) there is a piece of plastic tubing approx 10 inches,it can be removed and put back in place after use.

I have found that there is always something that can be used in an emergency, some methods may not be conventional, but they work. Feminine hygiene products are excellent for emergency wound care, have a deep laceration, use a tampon to control bleeding(cut it down to size) or a pad makes for an excellent sterile non stick pad for any wound.

Sorry I didn't read everything yet, just wanted to let you know, I have been "encouraging" Sarah to drink, since I last posted. I got about as much as I would've gotten in tube feeding. I kept stirring the water too, so the Corid didn't settle. She actually did drink some on her own also, not as much as me dipping her beak, but some....I can see her swallow, and she tips her head back just a tad also, so she is getting it in her. Thank GOD!

I got over excited and scrambled an egg, no buttermilk this time and tried to squeeze some in th eside of her beak. She wasn't having any of that yet, but did get a couple pieces in her beak and swallowed it but mostly it is all over...jumping too far ahead of myself here I think.

Looks like, if I pick her up every 15-20 minutes and work on encouraging her to drink and putting her head in the water, I CAN get fluid in. Maybe since she hasn't eaten, the cocci are starving anyways? Is that even possible? Anyway, going to keep that up, and see where it leads...

Pray hard you all, or send good thoughts, how ever you do this. This is a HUGE improvement over yesterday when I could NOT get anything in her. Maybe holding her more, well most of the time, is helping her will to thrive? I don't know, all I know is I got a fair amount of treated water in her.

I still have a tad of Duramycin-10. do you all think I should add that also? I don't think there is enough to last until they get more in at TSC and I can go get it also...what do you think? or should I just stick to the Corid for now?

She gave me the thank you trill afterwards too. Was music to my ears!!!!! I gotta eat something, and check the other birds then do Sarah again, so bare with me on reading and answering but I WILL read all your suggestions and see if there is anything I can use to tube her, thinking out of the box like you said!

My concern with the antibiotics is I do not have enough left to last until I can get more and her liver...when she started with the runny poops, it was green with water....

Thank you all, sooo much...back to work!

The thing is, the loose/runnygreen poop started before she stopped eating the chicken feed. I saw her mowing on it, so I know she was eating and I had to replenish it often. The water started when I had to give her the scrambled eggs as she had stopped eating the feed all of a sudden. She started with the hunched back, runny green poop and ruffled feathers and lethargic. The poop turned to all water, when she stopped eating anything. I felt the bedding this morning, as that is now the only way I can tell if things are still passing through her and there were 2 wet spots.

Ok, on to tubing food. I have a pen I was able to take apart...checked the toilet, the hose is too damaged, I'm afraid pieces would fall off in her. I rent, manager is a drunk...enough said?

I do have some baby food, from a year and a half ago when I had 8 teeth pulled. exp dates are 3/2014. They should still be ok though, nothing swollen on them ect. There are green beens, sweet carrots and a sweet potatoe and turkey mix. No blender, blew it up last year trying to grind feed. But have FF that is already half dissolved from the fermentation...could add more water. She has never had anything BUT the feed. I have NO CLUE and am scared to death of tube feeding you all....and have no help. So I will have to attempt this on my own. She has no wattles yet either, so no way to pull her beak open easily. Nothing but ammonia for a disinfectant...or antibacterial soap I use for my hands for after chores. What do I do....how do I do this....not sure I have the strength either...am old and broken, literally, so any tips on ways to tube alone for older folks would be greatly appreciated....I really need a walk through to be honest...but am willing to give it a try????
