Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Duke seems to be doing better with them. She's stopped hissing and charging at them. Now she just tries to peck at them. We have them separated, but we spent most the day yesterday hanging out with them all together; so we can protect them from Duke and get Duke use to their presence. Seems to be working.

I called the feed store she got them from, and asked if they knew what breeds. They gave me a list of possibilities;

Khaki Campbell
Cayuga
Pekin
Rouen
Swedish
White or Fawn Runner

So I guess the black one is probably a Cayuga? No idea on the other, I'll have to look up duckling pictures.

We're starting the work on their permanent home today. They need outside before my daughter's room has 3 fully grown ducks in it!

And some pictures just because :)

A normal evening for my daughter and Duke (notice she has all her bedding stripped off and a towel under Duke's behind lol)

Precious pics. keep the ducklings and Duke separate when you can't be with them for the little ones protection but she will warm up to them in time. Such a sweet dd you have and some very blessed ducks. So happy ya'll are keeping Duke

They are separated for the time being. Once they get bigger and Duke warms up to them more we'll start leaving them together when we're home and during the day. Then hopefully they can all move outside together so it is shared territory from the start.

Lovely photos! The little fellow in my avatar grew up in my bedroom. Its something non duck people will never understand!

We were only animal people before Duke. She made us duck people! She is really just amazing. I never had any idea ducks were so smart and personable before she came around. We had enough interaction with them, but never on this level, never with a duck bonded to humans.

You should have seen her herding the babies today! My daughter would run, and Duke would try to follow, then panic that the babies weren't following, and go herd them toward my daughter. Within 10 minutes my daughter had all 3 chasing her around the yard. It's just astonishing to me they are that intelligent... No offense meant to any duck lovers, but they just don't seem like smart birds before you get to know them.

P.S. Duke has totally warmed up to the babies, if you couldn't tell from the post ;-)

Well..wait til you get some chickens mixed in. My ducks are smart but I think my rooster would kill me at chess.

I'm glad someone else is on board with the Cayuga thought! She is pretty dark, I think the pics make her lighter. I can't wait until they get feathers in! I'm so curious to see what they are. They're getting so big already.
