Saved some ducks, have a few questions.

Thank you so much. I planted a lilac tree on the island and we put in a fountain, which the ducks and geese do not seem to like at all.
They are scared of it.

But they will get used to it.

Last week a friend of my son was here and when he went to the balcony doors he just said "Do you have a gun?" And I asked him
why would I need a gun and he says "There is a fox in your front yard"

I rushed out and looked at the most beautiful fox I have ever seen who just looked at me and went on his merry way.
Only later did I realize I was missing 2 goslings and my mama goose.
We branched out and started looking for them but only found 1 dead gosling.
His neck was broken. Then I found a bunch of mama goose's feathers and my
heart sank.

I bought her from someone who was selling baby geese and ducks but they were all bunched up in a small space with no grass or water
and they were all so dirty that I took pity on the geese and took all 3 of them home. So I am really got attached to her. She follows me
around when I am outside and if I sit down she will leave the pond and the others to come chat with me.

So I did not sleep all night and just kept thinking of her.
She returned the next day at supper time!

She apparently had run away from the fox and ended up about 1 mile from our place.
She was seen by a friend in a field.

I was soooo happy!!

I asked my son and hubby to pee outside in certain areas. Yes it sounds weird but it actually works! The fox lives on our land and has
babies but since I got the men to mark their territory...LOLOLOL the fox has not returned. I never imagined it would work but
it works very very well.

It can start a massive pee war with humans and local foxes. I ended up getting a dog and he is very serious about his duty and I havnt see a fox since. What a very lucky story, poor momma goose!

I am waiting on an american cocker... he is not born yet but I am being patient and doing what I can
to keep the fox away.

Hi all! It's been a while! We've been so busy lately!

DuckyGaze, I'm sorry to hear about your goslings, but so glad mamma goose made it back home!

So, we're pretty sure both the babies are male. The brown one definitely is, and he's also likely a Rouen. We've been looking at their juvenile marking differences between Khaki's and Rouen and he has the tell tale grey tipped wings that continue up his back, as well as the grey underside.

The other darker duck is for sure an Indian Runner...or rather a cross breed that looks like an Indian Runner mostly. The place they were bought from only sells white and fawn runners, so we were confused he was black. Well, he's gotten a very seriously pretty shade of shiny green on his wings, and on his back where his feathers are starting to be more mature he has a very, pretty purple and green oil slick type glow, though most of him is a dull black/brown, plus he has several randomly placed white feathers throughout his body. Looks like a Cayuga got into the Runner yard lol

Oh and, my daughter rigged them up a shower the other day, they were in love :-D Especially Duke!

Even with them being housed outside now they still get drug into the house and front yard to be played with, and I'm so happy about that! (I'll have to get you guys some pics of their new home.)

They are gorgeous. look forward to seeing their new house.

Wow.. your runner has the colors of my cayugas! How cool is that?

They are gorgeous! you really take good care of them. Love to see people caring
for ducks.

Oh I am so happy the fox didn't get my goose.. she is very small for her age but
I put that down to the first months of her life being fed only small portions once a
day. My 3 remaing goslings are as big as her now. Wow.. they grow up so fast and
are very cute.

My ducks had 21 ducklings in all. Only 3 mama ducks so that makes alot of babies.
3 babies I got out of the abandonned eggs.
I could hear peeping and was very surprised at see a tiny bump on the eggs and
hearing them peep so of course I had to give them a chance to live.
Only 3 mama ducks so that makes alot of babies.
2 drowned..found them in the pond and1 just disappeared.

So now I have alot of ducklings racing around.. so cute to watch them.

My pond is turning out to be a huge hit with the geese and ducks. They have parties in there all day long. LOL

Here is a pic of ducks with ducklings. They are only 5 days old now.

The pond is awesome.. they spend most of their days on the island or just swimming around in circles. The geese do alot of diving and alot of splashing!
They really love it. If they are happy, I am overjoyed.

They are precious, and they look like they enjoy the pond it's a nice one.

Thank you so much and yes they do enjoy it so much.

Oh..I finally got a pic of my crested appleyard...
His pompom hangs down on the side of his head.

This duck's pompom reminds me of the french soldiers of many years ago... had a pompom on the side of their heads. :) His pompom flops all over and he is
quite funny to watch. But it is not on his head like other ducks..

Here are 2 ducklings I actually took out of the eggs. Heard the eggs peeping when I cleaned out the duck house. The ducks had pushed the eggs away from the nests
so I was going to get rid of them until I heard ducklings asking to be let out. The ducks have rejected them so I have decided to raise them with the kittens in the
house.

The kittens love the ducklings and actually wash them... they also cuddle up together. It is precious to see.
