Can I use sawdust for bedding?

Hardwood sawdust can be problematic if it gets wet. I also wouldn't us it for chicks since they may be tempted to eat it.

The sawdust would be from a pallet factory. Why is hardwood problematic?

hardwood is a good host for various fungi if it gets wet
another issue with sawdust is that it will increase dust in the air over shavings or sand

I'd be leery of treated wood in a pallet factory..many are treated but maybe after fabrication.
