Scalped baby chick!

I've actually had a hen with this injury before. She never grew back her neck feathers. But with yours, I think the other feathers will cover up any bald patch.

Update: Jezebel (mother hen in question) apparently rejected the little guy again. She didn't attack the wound, but I think she may have picked him up by the neck and threw him. I found him on the floor of the chicken coop, almost cold again.
But my hens had ignored him and he was okay, so I put him under a different hen. I will check back in another few minutes.

(And Jezebel's two remaining eggs have been redistributed.)

Update #2, it's been maybe 30 minutes and the chick is still underneath its new mother, Pidgy. I guess the next update will be when she comes out of lockdown (I'm guessing tomorrow morning) and gets a good look at it. I think she's going to assume it hatched that way.

Update #3, the little guy is doing alright and his mom doesn't even notice a difference. I'll continue to keep an eye on him and post a picture when/if he heals up.

Look at this good Bielefelder boy! He is so handsome, I hope I can keep him. He has this funny puppy look to him, in that his feet and legs are so big, and the rest of his body has yet to catch up. You can see he will be a good size. He's so thin when I pick him up though, I don't see how he would be a good dual purpose breed. I will just have to observe and see.

Whoops! Thought I was in another thread. Haha!

Well he hasn't healed up just yet but I wanted to show a video I took a couple days ago. (In case anyone gets confused, he has two moms. The hens are tag-teaming to raise a total of 13 chicks.)

AND I wanted to add that another chick hatched under a different hen got injured a similar way (not as bad though). He's also doing fine.
