Actually, it does kill all types of poultry lice in 24-72 hours. I used to think it wouldn't, but I have tried it on several birds now and I can guarantee you that it does. They both work. Ivermectin will also kill any other mites on the hen but won't kill lice.
You know, that's what I used to think too, but my peafowl friends kept telling me I was wrong, so I started doing some experiments and they were right, it does work, which is great because trying to spray huge peafowl can be very dangerous!I stand corrected! I thought it wouldn't kill lice because they eat dead skin on the hen and mites bite the hen which is how they ingest the ivermectin?
Medicating them topically or orally is much easier than trying to get the spray everywhere.Right OK. I can understand it being risky spraying a peafowl! If it works on both that's very good. It makes things a lot easier for treatment.
Here is another source that says to use ivermectin:I had never heard of Ivermectin until another forum on this site, then a lot of info from Google. But the vet I went to is a farm animal vet and he’s the ones that prescribed it to me. I’m new to chickens so I did what he, and others on this site, told me to do. I guess we’ll see what happens.
