I LOVE a swing...especially to sit out and watch the chooks from! He did a great job on that....and you'll get to sit and go to school right there in the comfort of your own swing. That's what I've done for the past many years...just sit and watch a flock interact. Fun stuff!

I miss my orchard swing....I've had many a wonderful, sweet time from that swing and my porch swing... you'll have to enjoy it for us both!

All I have here is the glider and it's none too comfy...and some ol' biddies are always using it!

LOL that brought a huge smile to my face! They are sooooo pretty! The rooster must be crowing, he has his mouth open. lol
I sure hope you can find you another swing! Nothing like a swing to enjoy.

Well I went to Lowes and bought my sulfur dust but am not sure I got the right thing. It was 5.98 if I am remembering right but it says for fruit trees etc. and it does say for mites but never did see any where on it that it said it was for chickens. ??? Did I get the right thing and it was the ONLY sulfur dust they had. They also did't have the pyre word. I looked and re-looked for that one.

I have an online friend that has those large dogs and she abbreviates their breed name Pyre or something like that so I thought, oh I can remember which P word because of Marilyn's dogs.

Bee I'm afraid I have a sick chick, one of my BA's. I am ALMOST positive it is the SAME ONE I thought was missing! I thought something got it but when I let them out a couple days later and got them back in the pen there it was, all 23 black chicks. Don't know HOW it survived with no food and water outside the pen. This morning hubby counted them and saw that there was 23. This was yesterday that I let them out....... Anyway I could hear it breathing tonight and it was whizpy sounding. I went to that side of the roost to see which one it was and it was the BA. Wanted to pass this by you and see what you think about it. I found this info some where and I don't remember where I found it but I like natural so I cut and pasted it just in case. Don't think its yours because I labeled all I cut and pasted of your info. Anyway this was the info.... this is what they said about their chickens. I'm only hearing the one doing this but thought this might be something I might need to do before it gets worse. ????

respiratory infection that affected my entire flock.

They were all very sick with thick mucous discharge, severe lethargy, wheezing,
and coughing. Also the discharge had a very bad odor. The roosters where unable
to crow.

I researched remedies and posted on one of the threads for ideas of how to treat
my chicken family.
In the end I decided to try the natural approach because the antibiotics that are
available seemed to be a little dangerous if not given right.

The natural approach worked great!! So I want to share it with everyone.

This is what I did:
Crushed ( 7) 1000 mg vitamin c tablets.(one for each chicken) added two to three
tablespoons of cinnamon to the powder and mixed it in chick starter. I put the
mixture in their food pan. I also added electrolytes to their water.
Their symptoms improved the 1st day and I continued the above regimen for one week.
Every one recovered fully!

I have to add that after the 1st dose of my mixture all of the chickens where
acting normally by the end of the 1st day! The roosters were even crowing normally
again. The congestion and mild sneezing or coughing continued for 3 or 4 days
however the congestion no longer had an odor and was mainly clear discharge.
After the 5th day all symptoms seemed to be gone but I continued the treatment
for 3 more days just to make sure.

If anyone else has used this method to treat illness please let me know.
I am curious to see if it was just a fluke or if it is a great home remedy.

chick is still acting fine. Not hearing any wheezing sounds or anything from any of them. PTL!!! They sure are enjoying all the gallon jugs of ice I am putting in their water to help cool them off. Having a heat wave right now and it's just sooooo hot it's miserable. So I've been freezing the gallon water jugs for them. I fixed those watering nipples on the bottom of 5 gallon buckets and put a lid on it. That way their water stays nice and clean. So I'm putting the frozen gallon water jugs in the buckets.

It won't say it's for chickens because it's not marketed for chickens...just for bugs. And bugs we got on them chickens! It'll be interesting to see how you fare with it...it's so fine a dust that it's almost impossible not to breath some of it..might want to wear a face mask if you use it.

OK will do that. With mine free ranging and all the other birds I have round my place I worry about them getting critters on them. We have dove, quail, and wood peckers and blue jays etc. I have a mask I can wear to do it with. I think I am going to put it in a couple places they dust inside their pen so it can stay dry. Is it ok to mix into the soil in those areas? Our soil is VERY sandy here.

Shouldn't hurt, though it might deter any other bugs in that area. It might also cause some wheezing in your birds when they go to dust if it gets into their airways. Had that happen once with my old Bertha after placing wood ashes in their dusting spot and she wheezed for a couple of days but it resolved itself soon enough.

OK thanx! So that might be what was wrong with that BA the other night. DUH I put my fireplace ashes out there in the area they were dusting. I had no idea they'd do that with the ashes. Wasn't a whole lot of ashes though so I figured I needed something else.
Ok so I don't need to do that in the run then if it will deter other bugs from that area? Because this is right behind the roosting area that will be for the deep litter method. So where do you put your dusting area for your chickens?

LOL me to Fancychooklady! It was so funny when I saw them all on it. Although I bet it's not funny to her having to clean it off to be able to use it. It did bring a smile to my face though because of all the pretty chickens. LOVE the wattles on that rooster!
