Using Vaseline to smother the mites, how long does it take, on average, to clear up scaly leg mites? I've read 3 weeks-ish. Is that everyone's general consensus? (P.S. I think I caught it pretty early, as I've seen pics of feet much worse than hers.) I'll add that she's a barred rock who is supposedly 1.5 years old. I just acquired her from a friend...and she's not in the coop/run with my other hens yet.

You'll need to repeat that in 7-10 days. The reason is that they laid eggs that will be able to hatch yet.

How we did it was every other day for three times, then skip a week, and do the same thing again.

It takes about 3 weeks to start seeing improvement, but can take months to be totally perfect feet again. Don't scrub her scales off but you can speed up the process a bit by soaking her feet before vaseline treatments in either Epsom salts or just a weak amt of dishwashing liquid, and use a toothbrush to gently brush her feet/legs, then apply the vaseline after she's dry. Those raised scales are painful if you start scrubbing on them harshly.
