i have this 4 week old chick that looks terrible on her back and vent. She appears to be in good health everywhere else. Her brood mates are all fine. Any ideas what this may be?

Going by the middle picture, which looks most descriptive, it looks like vent gleet...an overgrowth of yeast (fungus).

Here's a good article on cause/cure

You should separate her...while not "contagious" per se, it can spread from one bird to another, especially through mating.

Double check to make sure there are no crawling bugs just in case this is mite/lice feather destruction (more in top and bottom photos)...but middle photo it really appears to be vent gleet.

...Just noticed we are dealing with a 4 week old chick...definitely could be fungal overgrowth from pasty butt or a case of diarrhea that created a warm spot for overgrowth.

Not likely mite/lice at this age.

I would separate, place on yogurt and ACV, as well as medicated chick start (if not already on it) in case you've got some Coccidiosis as a driving force for the diarrhea.

To help figure things out...gently clean the bottom with some warm water and gentle soap, thoroughly drying then applying Chlorhexiderm (if you have it/can get it...usually at the vet)...it is a great drying agent and antimicrobial for irritated, topical staph or fungal infection on the skin.

Then re-assess to see if there are other signs of illness and to figure out what may be causing the runny poo in the first place.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the advice. I checked for mites and lice. Not seeing anything. So I'm thinking it's the fungal issue mentioned. Thanks again!!

That is my thought too.
