Scared out of my mind and need to just talk it out.

I'm no medical expert, but this doesn't sound like it's such an urgent matter. If it were, wouldn't you be urged to seek further attention as soon as possible? Maybe that's why the nurse was so impatient, because she knew your situation wasn't so urgent but she had a ward full of other folks with more immediate needs.

But here's a

to wash away your worries. I know how easy it is to jump to the most awful conclusions, and to give in to troublesome thoughts. I'll pray for you: Dear Lord, please send Your peace to this dear lady, and ease her troubled mind. Cover her with Your wings like a protective broody hen, prevent those fears from bothering her, let her find rest & contentment snuggled safe & warm in Your feathers. Please give her a good night's rest tonight and GOOD NEWS about her health tomorrow. I ask for Your healing touch upon her lungs. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

I was thinking the same thing. Praying that you can get some rest and get in to see your doctor tomorrow.

I appreciate the prayers. I have been trying to pray but its ended mostly in tears and begging right now. I have a really great regular doctor though and I am just trying to pray that she will be able to give me the information I need to ease my mind. I did write a list of my questions and I have said probably a million prayers tonight. You never fully understand praying without ceasing until you are scared out of your mind. You might think you did it before but it takes it to a whole new level. I just needed somewhere to turn to talk. If i talk to family they will freak out more than I will and then I will never calm down. Talking to my husband is not so easy right now. He just gets teary. Thanks so much for the hugs and prayers.

Here is what I found on the Lung Health Education website about calcified nodules.

"Benign Lesions
A benign pulmonary nodule is usually the result of an inflammatory response to a previous granulomatous infection, tuberculosis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis or atypical mycobacteria. Those due to histoplasmosis and tuberculosis commonly calcify, but nodules due to coccidioidomycosis usually do not. Fungal granulomas are typically caused by Coccidioides immitis in the southwestern United States, Histoplasma capsulatum in the upper Mississippi region, and less commonly by cryptococcus or blastomycosis."

Perhaps that is why the nurse was so offhand but inexcusably so. Please try not to worry too much before you talk to your doctor. It sounds like calcification is more of an indication of a benign lesion, not cancerous. And you did have an infection so perhaps the nodules are the sign of the inflammatory response to the infection.

Good luck and if you ever run into that nurse again, give her a swift kick for me.

have the answering service page your doctor..i am sure he wont mind, given the completely understandable frantic state you are in. then maybe you can have your fears eased somewhat

Yup, that's how a lot of my prayers must sound to God and it seems He hears & understands them anyway.

I thought the same thing too, about having the answering service contact your regular doctor. But a lot of them won't give you an answer over the phone for fear of having you hold them liable later. And I'm finding more doctors who cannot be contacted after hours for any reason, their phone goes to an answering machine which gives you the message "If this is an emergency hang up & dial 9-1-1." So if you know your doctor is responsive then give it a try, otherwise just wait until the morning.

You sound like a great mother, try talking to yourself as soothingly as you would to one of your children if they had something troubling them.

"The lung has a variety of mechanisms that try to keep the lungs sterile. Sometimes small substances (grains of sand, dust, or certain organisms) get past these mechanisms and deposit in the lung tissue. The body's immune system responds to this deposition of foreign matter. In some cases, the substance can be destroyed with enzymes or cleared from the lung (sometimes by coughing); in other cases, the body walls off this foreign material into nodular densities that can calcify (meaning that there are small deposits of calcium-containing compounds), especially if any bleeding occurs. These are seen as calcified nodules on chest x-rays or CT scans. Organisms that can result in these nodules include tuberculosis, Rubella (the virus that causes German measles), and a variety of fungi."

Heather-could it possibly be from your pleurisy?
I could be wrong, but I don't believe for one second if they thought it was cancer that they would allow you to wait 6 months to follow up with another CT-seems like they would be sending you for a biopsy right away. I don't think he would want the possibility of a malpractice suit due to waiting that long for a follow up scan.
Call you doctor in the morning and DEMAND an answer-DO NOT let up until you are satisfied that all of your questions are answered and your mind is at ease.
I am praying that there is NOTHING wrong with you and that you get piece of mind and good news early in the morning.
