Scary sad trip to TSC today!!!

I would agree then that the food should be OK. I would take it out of the bag and put it in a different container for sure. I am just really concerned because it sounds like the little ones have the bird flu.

I always put the food in an air tight (and strong - rodent proof) tupperware. If you have access to something like that, maybe do that. Otherwise, wipe down then bag with a damp cloth - solution of bleach & water... since the bag is paper try not to hose it down too much.

Yeah, my main concern was if anyone else thought I could bring in something on the bag of feed and if it warranted changing out the bag. I have the almost empty one still, so I will probably just dump it in there. I keep my chicken food in the house in a closet so it is safe from pests and I just keep it in the original bags. I think that HAD to be something contagious. I was almost afraid to go near my babies even after I knew it had to be off me!!!

I would put the food in a bin and burn the bag,
but I always do that anyway.

I use plastic bins, even inside my house, because the bags have a bad tendency to get kicked or knocked over. Plus I just think the rigid bin is easier to scoop from.

That's shocking about all the dead ones. Every once in a while I'll see one chick (out of like 500 they got in) that died a day or so after arrival at a local feed store but none with any problems like that!

They could have been handled by kids that didn't know any better and hurt them, or they could have been trampled and already stressed from the move!
I bet it isn't a illness that you need to worry about!

Oh, trust me, there is no way this many chicks were injured....either by a child or by trampling. It was almost every chick!!! There were three brooders full. Probaby around 200 chicks or so (that is a guess but I think about what they normally order and I think these were most of a shipment). I saw maybe two or three that weren't bleeding from the nostrils yet. With almost all having the same symptoms (the nose bleed) and at various stages, I think it HAS to be a disease. I know I have read of a disease on here that causes bleeding from the nostrils but can't remember what it was.

if you find out what it was you gotta tell us cause i really want to know...and do you know what they did with the chicks??? o those poor little guys i feel so bad for them...

there was a thread about a week ago about someone getting moldy feed from TSC....i wonder if that could be it?...maybe some problem in the warehouse with mold? scary!
